Learning - from others going through similar illnesses or situations has value. That's why Chesapeake Regional Medical Center offers support groups focusing on various medical conditions for the patient and caregivers.

All of us at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center genuinely wish you the greatest possible health and comfort. For your benefit, the following services and support groups are available:

Bariatric Support Group

For those who have undergone or plan to under go weight loss surgery. The group meets the third Thursday of the month, 6:30 p.m. at the Lifestyle Center. Call 757-312-3000.

Breast Cancer Support Group

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center sponsors a breast cancer support group that is open to newly diagnosed women as well as survivors. If you have breast cancer, you are not alone. We are here for you. At the meetings, women share concerns and exchange information. Health care professionals speak on topics of interest. Also, members will embrace, comfort, encourage and honor your courageous journey to fight cancer.

The group meetings are facilitated by a breast cancer survivor and an oncology nurse. The group meets the first Thursday of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. at Chesapeake Regional's Lifestyle Center. Call 757-312-2232.

Caregiver Education

For family members who have older members suffering from depression, dementia or age-related memory impairment. Members discuss signs and symptoms of illness, management strategies and methods for coping with caregiver burden and stress.

The group meets Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. on 3 West of Chesapeake General Hospital. Call 757-312-6143.

Chesapeake Tidewater Celiacs

Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disorder that develops due to an intolerance to protein peptides found in wheat, rye and barley. It is a multisystem disorder that may wax and wane for decades. This disease is treatable without medication, or surgery.

The support group features short informational programs, information about recent medical research, and promotions of upcoming events and legislation. It is sponsored by the Celiac Disease Foundation, a nonprofit group that promotes awareness, research and supports kids with Celiac disease to camp in the summer.

Meetings are held every third Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Lifestyle Center.

Laughing Pioneers - alzheimer's support group

Sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association of Hampton Roads. Join members of this early memory loss support group as they focus on the needs of people who have early stages of dementia or memory impairment.

The group meets the fourth Monday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lifestyle Center. Call 757-312-6555.

Multiple Scoliosis Support Group

Meets the third Tuesday of the month from 7-9 p.m. at the Lifestyle Center. Call 757-482-3247.

Ostomy Support Group

Meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Lifestyle Center. This group serves as a support group for people with bowel or urinary diversions/ostomy, their families and caregivers. Features special programs, speakers and activities. Come share your experiences with other people who understand.

People Helping People

For cancer patients, their families and friends and survivors of those who have died of cancer. The group meets the second Thursday of each month, 10:30 a.m., Sidney M. Oman Cancer Center. Call 757-312-6460.

Stroke Survivors & Care Partner Support Group

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center wants to help stroke victims and their families become "Stroke Wise" by hosting this support group. Participants will learn self-care strategies that will increase functional quality. In addition, they will discover healthy coping skills to help them live with the effects of stroke.

Meets the second Monday of the month, from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Lifestyle Center. Call 757-312-6584.

Widowed Persons Service

Widowed Persons Service (WPS) is a volunteer network of widowed men and women of all ages who have worked their way through their own grief and want to help the newly widowed learn to deal with their emotions and adjustments.

Our goals are to help you:

  • Cope with your shock and grief.
  • Adjust to your changed status and identity.
  • Set and pursue new goals for your life.

We offer group support, shared meals and social activities when you are ready to reach out to others. There is no charge.

WPS meets every Friday except the Friday before a holiday at 7p.m. at the Lifestyle Center. Call 545-4911 or 487-0789.

 


 

Financial Assistance

For those unable to pay in full at the time of service, the hospital will accept monthly payments on a pre-determined schedule, as stated in the hospital billing and payment policy and which is established with a credit representative or financial counselor.

To apply for financial assistance, a financial application and financial statement must be completed and submitted along with proof of income for initial consideration.
