A multidisciplinary team consisting of specially trained bariatric surgeons, a bariatric coordinator, fully trained nurses, anesthesiologists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, intensivists, nephrologists, otolaryngologists, psychiatrists/psychologists, gastroenterologists, thoracic surgeons and orthopedists work together to provide quality and comprehensive care for our bariatric patients.
Dr. Eric Yancey, director of bariatric surgery
Dr. Yancey, a general and bariatric surgeon, received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia’s School of Medicine, where he also completed his internship. Dr. Yancey did his residency at Howard University Hospital. He served as chief resident at the hospital from 1996-1997.
In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Yancey has a master’s degree in cardiovascular pharmacology. He is the recipient of several honors and awards, including the 2004 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Humanitarian Service to the Community. Dr. Yancey is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Society for Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Robert Chastanet
Dr. Chastanet is also a general and bariatric surgeon. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He completed a residency at the U.S. Naval Medical Center in San Diego, and a fellowship in laparoscopy at the University of Texas at Houston.
During his 26 years in the Navy he served in the first Gulf War and Afghanistan. Dr. Chastanet graduated with honors from the U.S. Naval Academy. He has served as the division head of Bariatric and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the U.S. Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth. He is credentialed in laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable gastric band and endoscopy. He is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons.
