But without the tools or knowledge to do so, many will be unsuccessful. Chesapeake Regional LITE (Lifestyle, Implementation, Training and Exercise) is the only medically-supervised comprehensive weight management center in Hampton Roads.

This program offers everything from nutrition counseling and medically-supervised diets to fitness classes and bariatric surgery. So whether you want to lose 10 pounds or 100 pounds, Chesapeake Regional LITE can help. A team of specialists, including bariatric surgeons and nurses, diabetes educators, personal trainers and registered dietitians, are available to help patients decide what they need to meet ,and keep, their weight loss goals.
With a supportive, one-on-one care experience unlike any other in the region, your choice is clear - Chesapeake Regional Lite!
With so many available resources, the new program is a one-stop center for weight loss options. The first step is meeting with patient navigator Desiree Kinniburgh, who helps patients determine their goals and which weight loss option is right for them. Kinniburgh, a bariatric registered nurse, doesn't just help patients in the beginning, though. She is with them through every step of their weight loss journey, too.
"Chesapeake Regional LITE is more than just a diet, it's a lifestyle change," said Sherwood Moore, bariatric, cardiovascular and neuroscience service line administrator for Chesapeake Regional. "We want to help people understand the triggers in their lives that are making them gain weight and change those patterns."
After meeting with Kinniburgh, and to ensure patients lose weight in a healthy manner, they meet with a physician for a physical, patient history and blood work. Based on the results of the blood work and physician assessment, a program is designed for each individual to best meet his or her lifestyle and weight loss needs.
B-Well is a non-surgical weight-loss program that helps people make better decisions about what and when to eat. Created with the help of a registered dietitian, the program includes personalized food plans to help
participants meet their individual calorie requirements. Food journals, office visits and optional weight-loss support groups help participants motivated and focused. Vitamin B12 shots, which are thought to boost energy and increase metabolism, are also available.
The food plan is tailored to meet individual calorie requirements. It is created with the help of a registered dietitian to ensure patients meet proper nutritional guidelines. The program is strict in that there are certain foods to eat, but it's also realistic in that you can eat home-cooked meals or fast food.
Participants keep a food journal and have office visits two to three times a week. Optional weight loss support groups and vitamin B12 shots, which are thought to boost energy and increase metabolism, are also available.
In the journey to weight-loss, diet is only half the battle. Having, and sticking to, an exercise program is also an essential component. With the aid of personal trainers and the bariatric coordinator, the Lifestyle Center at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center can help you lose weight, improve your health and feel better.
For those who have a body mass index of 35 or greater and have other health risks, including diabetes or high cholesterol, bariatric surgery is available through Chesapeake Surgical and Bariatric Specialists, an affiliate of Chesapeake Regional Medical Group.
Bariatric surgery options include gastric bypass, gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomy. A team of boardcertified bariatric surgeons, bariatric coordinator and nurses, along with several other physician specialties, provide the personalized care you need to achieve the best results possible. Named a “Center of Excellence” by the American College of Surgeons, Chesapeake Regional’s Bariatric Surgery Program offers a comprehensive range of pre- and post-operative education, support and outreach.
